About the role
The Operations Manager will lead the blasting service delivery process, ensuring that customer requirements—both tangible and intangible—are consistently met or exceeded. This role is pivotal in strengthening client relationships and positioning BME as the preferred provider of blasting solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and report on annual business plans, managing finances and staffing to achieve organisational objectives.
- Define and execute business strategies to generate new business for BME.
- Oversee the entire operational service‑delivery value chain, creating value at each step in line with the company vision.
- Manage inventory, order processing, shipping, and related cost controls.
- Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act, OHS Act, and all statutory requirements, driving continuous improvement in safety, health, environment, risk and quality (SHERQ).
- Lead human‑capital functions, adhering to relevant legislation.
- Control financial processes through the D365 system, guaranteeing accuracy each month.
- Supervise maintenance of equipment, vehicles and assets, following established procedures.
- Implement employee development and skills‑transfer programmes.
- Define, develop and enforce policies and procedures for process excellence and continual improvement.
- Guarantee that all electronic blasting on‑site meets BME standards and that designs are produced using recognised blasting software.
Required profile
- Degree or Diploma in Mining, Mechanical or Explosives Engineering.
- Minimum 8 years of blasting/mining experience, including a mandatory Blasting Ticket.
- At least 5 years in a supervisory role with a proven track record in an operational/explosives mining environment.
- Valid Code B driving licence, Certificate of Conduct and Police clearance.
- Knowledge of SHERQ (national or international) standards.
- Advantageous: MS Office proficiency, Blasting Certificate, Advanced Blasting course, Axxis Blasting System training.
Required skills
- Proficiency with blasting design software such as BlastMap, SHOTPlus, BlastIQ and O‑Pitblast.
- Experience using the Axxis Blasting System.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email).
- Operational use of Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) for finance processing.
