MMU Assistant

About the role

The MMU Assistant supports truck operations on a blasting site, helping to collect raw materials from silos and deliver them down the blast hole while maintaining vehicle cleanliness and site housekeeping.

Key responsibilities

• Refill the truck at loading points with prescribed raw materials under the supervision of the truck operator.
• Assist the truck operator with pre‑use inspections and calibration of raw materials, twine, and measuring equipment.
• Perform ongoing vehicle cleaning and general site housekeeping as directed.
• Measure and verify hole depths, report out‑of‑spec holes, and ensure correct charging procedures.
• Place charging hoses, check detonator placement, secure detonator lines, and act as a spotter for the truck operator.
• Take samples, manage sample cups, and assist with final density checks.
• Maintain measuring tapes, twine, and other tools in good condition.

Required profile

• Grade 12 education.
• Valid Code B driving licence.
• Certificate of Conduct (police).
• Minimum 2 years experience as a truck assistant in a blasting or mining environment.

Required skills

• Ability to conduct pre‑use truck inspections.
• Competence in vehicle and site housekeeping.
• Capability to measure hole depths and ensure correct charging specifications.
• Proficiency with sampling equipment, measuring tapes, and calibration procedures.
