Fire Assay Operator

About the role

We are looking for a hands‑on Fire Assay Operator to join our laboratory team in Omaruru. You will be responsible for preparing and processing mineral samples using fire assay techniques, ensuring accurate and timely analytical results while maintaining the highest safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform fire assay procedures in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and industry reference methods.
• Weigh and flux samples accurately, manage fusion and cupellation processes, and handle lead waste responsibly.
• Prepare and weigh pulp samples, maintaining efficiency and precision throughout each shift.
• Monitor and report any deviations from protocols or safety standards to the Chemist or Supervisor.
• Maintain proper use of personal protective equipment and comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Keep accurate records for sample preparation and quality control.
• Coordinate sample movement between laboratory departments to ensure smooth workflow.
• Communicate effectively with lab teams to guarantee timely processing of client samples.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and train new team members.

Required profile

• High School Certificate or equivalent.
• 1–2 years of experience in sample preparation, fire assay operations, or related laboratory work.
• Physical ability to lift up to 25 kg and perform manual tasks.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proactive mindset with analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Willingness to travel to laboratory sites, including internationally.
