Vessel Operator (M/F)

About the role

Africa Global Logistics Namibia is looking for a Vessel Operator based in Walvis Bay, Namibia. This is a permanent, full-time position responsible for coordinating vessel port calls and ensuring efficient, compliant and cost-effective vessel operations while maintaining high customer service standards.

Key responsibilities

• Organize, oversee and coordinate all aspects of vessel port calls, from berth bookings through to sailing and final account settlement.
• Ensure compliance with safety, commercial, statutory and port regulations.
• Coordinate vessel arrivals, departures, cargo operations, crew changes and shore services.
• Monitor vessel obligations so that all requirements are met and delays avoided.
• Act on behalf of vessel owners and operators during port calls.
• Liaise with port authorities, service providers, suppliers and clients.
• Solicit cargo and support business development, and manage supplier relationships and pricing negotiations.
• Procure goods and services in line with company policy, check invoices and operational documents, and build strong customer relationships.
• Support marketing initiatives and new client acquisition.

Required profile

• Grade 12 certificate.
• At least 5 years of experience in vessel operations, ship agency, shipping, port operations or a related logistics environment.
• Proven experience independently managing vessel port calls from nomination through to final sailing and account closure.
• Demonstrated experience in client relationship management and business development.
• Valid driver's licence with a valid PDP.
• Sound knowledge of port regulations, statutory requirements and vessel agency operations.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, with strong planning, coordination and problem-solving abilities.
• Exposure to project management is an added advantage.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant shipping and logistics systems.
