Principal Officer (Retirement Fund)

About the role

The Principal Officer serves as the statutory officer of the PPS Namibia Retirement Annuity Fund, acting as the primary point of accountability to NAMFISA. Working closely with the Board of Trustees, the role ensures the Fund is managed in strict compliance with the Financial Institutions Act (FIMA), Fund Rules, and NAMFISA standards.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Board in establishing governance frameworks, codes of conduct, and annual planning aligned with FIMA reporting deadlines.
• Maintain trustee records, fit-and-proper documentation, and oversee sub-committee activities, including agenda preparation and minutes.
• Ensure full compliance with FIMA, NAMFISA directives, and Namibian financial legislation; manage statutory filings and coordinate annual compliance audits.
• Oversee the Fund’s enterprise risk management, internal controls, and assurance functions, reporting material risks and incidents to the Board and NAMFISA.
• Manage service-provider agreements and monitor outsourcing arrangements to meet FIMA requirements.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Law, Finance, Accounting, Actuarial Science, Investments or a related retirement-fund field.
• Minimum five years senior experience in the retirement-fund industry or a comparable regulated environment.
• Demonstrated knowledge of FIMA Chapter 5 (Retirement Funds) and NAMFISA standards, determinations and directives.
• Ability to satisfy and maintain NAMFISA Fit-and-Proper standards for principal officers.
• Strong governance, communication, regulatory engagement and stakeholder-management competencies.
• Residency in Namibia as required by FIMA.

Required skills

• In-depth knowledge of FIMA Chapter 5 (Retirement Funds).
• Familiarity with NAMFISA standards, determinations and directives.
