Heavy Diesel & Machinery Technician

About the role

The technician will perform heavy engine and machine overhauls, execute preventative maintenance, and restore damaged diesel and mechanical assets to safe operational specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Complete structural teardown, cleaning, component mapping, replacement, and precision reassembly of diesel blocks, multi‑gear transmissions, heavy differential links, and hydraulic pumps.
• Execute scheduled maintenance protocols including fluid flushes, filter changes, torque checks, and valve adjustments to prevent component failure.
• Calibrate settings using electronic data scanners and mechanical instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators, pressure gauges, and torque wrenches according to OEM manuals.
• Maintain detailed job cards documenting work hours, part serial numbers, and inventory usage.
• Ensure workshop safety by keeping work areas clean, isolating pressure systems, and using appropriate PPE for welding, cutting, and hot fluid drains.

Required profile

• Vocational Trade Diploma or Certified Journeyman License in Automotive, Diesel, or Industrial Heavy Machinery Mechanics.
• 3+ years of field repair experience in heavy industrial, transport, or mining environments.
• Physical agility, strong hand dexterity, and strict safety compliance.

Required skills

• Diesel engine overhaul and multi‑gear transmission repair.
• Hydraulic pump maintenance and fluid flush procedures.
• Use of torque wrenches, micrometers, dial indicators, pressure gauges.
• Electronic data scanner operation and OEM manual calibration.
