Metallurgist – Rare Earth Elements Plant

About the role

Gecko Namibia is looking for an experienced Metallurgist to support the commissioning, start‑up and optimisation of its Rare Earth Elements Demonstration Plant. The role blends plant metallurgy, laboratory testing and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Support commissioning, start‑up and operation of the REE Demonstration Plant.
• Monitor metallurgical performance (throughput, recovery, grade, yield, reagent consumption).
• Conduct plant sampling, metallurgical surveys, process audits and mass‑balance reconciliations.
• Optimise XRT ore sorting, flotation, crushing, screening, milling and classification processes.
• Troubleshoot performance issues, perform root‑cause investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Plan and evaluate laboratory, bench‑scale and plant‑scale test work and translate results into plant trials.

Required profile

• BEng/BSc/BTech in Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum three years post‑graduate experience in a mineral processing environment.

• Froth flotation and reagent optimisation.
• XRT ore sorting.
• Crushing, screening, milling and classification.
• Metallurgical accounting and mass‑balancing.
