Senior Engineer – Multidisciplinary & Projects (Northern Region)

About the role

NamPower is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead multidisciplinary and project activities for the Northern Region transmission network. The role focuses on protection, automation and control (PAC) systems, grid modernization and the delivery of cross‑functional projects.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement PAC strategies, refurbishment programmes and technology roadmaps aligned with operational and grid development objectives.
• Lead the design, review and specification of protection and control schemes, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and system requirements.
• Coordinate and manage cross‑functional projects from planning through procurement, installation, commissioning and handover, meeting scope, budget and timeline targets.
• Develop test procedures, oversee Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and resolve defects before equipment handover.
• Maintain PAC systems and related electrical installations in substations and control rooms to ensure reliability and readiness.
• Analyse fault events, identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
• Update electrical drawings, protection scheme logics, settings and technical documentation.
• Represent NamPower in technical forums, project meetings and negotiations with stakeholders.
• Lead, mentor and manage a team of engineers, allocate workloads and support succession planning.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (NQF Level 7/8).
• Registered Professional or Incorporated Engineer with the Engineering Council of Namibia.
• Minimum five years of practical experience in power system protection, automation and control.
• At least three years of supervisory experience.
• Valid Code B driver’s licence.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of IEC 61850 and digital substation applications.
• Strong understanding of Operation Technology (OT) in power systems.
• Experience with protection, automation and control system design and implementation.
