Skipper – Marine Support for Survey Operations

About the role

Namdeb Diamond Corporation is seeking a Skipper to provide sea‑rescue support, logistical coordination and basic mechanical assistance for marine geophysical survey missions. The role combines land‑based planning with seagoing execution in challenging surf‑zone conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and execute sea‑rescue operations for survey crews.
• Provide logistical support and basic mechanical assistance to marine survey vessels.
• Maintain and service marine crafts, jet skis and outboard engines.
• Plan, organise and lead small‑team operations in high‑risk, high‑pressure environments.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (or equivalent National Senior Certificate) with at least 20 points over five subjects, including English.
• DMA Under‑25 ton Skippers CoC or SAMSA Category C with surf‑launch endorsement (preferred).
• Code B driver’s licence (manual transmission).
• STCW certification covering elementary first aid, marine firefighting, personal safety and social responsibility, and personal safety techniques.
• 2–3 years sea‑going experience on small vessels; experience with an official marine rescue organisation is a plus.
• Proficient swimmer, physically fit and comfortable working in the surf zone.
• Computer literate with competence in Microsoft Office.
