About the role
The Economist will provide substantive economic analysis and evidence‑based advice on sustainable development, economic transformation and SDG financing for the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office in Windhoek. The incumbent supports the UN Country Team, the Resident Coordinator and national partners in identifying policy options, monitoring economic trends and strengthening evidence‑based programming.
Key responsibilities
- Research, analyse and present economic, social and sustainable‑development data, including trends on green transition, digital transformation, future of work and SDG financing.
- Conduct policy and economic analysis to advise the Resident Coordinator and UN Country Team on challenges, opportunities and options for accelerating SDG progress, with gender‑equality and “leave no one behind” considerations.
- Support implementation and localisation of global guidelines, tools and methodologies related to integrated SDG analysis, strategic foresight, data‑driven decision‑making and innovation.
- Prepare substantive inputs for policy papers, briefing notes, reports and other knowledge products on economic transformation, macro‑economic trends and financing mechanisms.
- Monitor national, regional and global economic developments and assess their implications for sustainable development and SDG achievement at country level.
- Analyse the role of the private sector and identify partnership, innovation and blended‑financing opportunities for sustainable economic transformation.
- Research emerging approaches to SDG financing from the UN, International Financial Institutions and development partners, and provide inputs for Integrated National Financing Frameworks.
- Facilitate engagement with government counterparts, UN entities, IFIs, private‑sector actors, academia, think‑tanks and civil‑society organisations on economic transformation and financing issues.
- Contribute economic and financing analysis to the Common Country Analysis, United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and other elements of the UN development programming cycle.
