Hotel Handyman

About the role

CityLodge Hotels is hiring a full-time handyman. The role carries out general repairs and maintenance under supervision, fulfils the requirements of the annual calendar, addresses quick fixes, runs special projects and complies with the Lodge Care programme. Its overall purpose is to make every guest a returning and referring guest.

Key responsibilities

• Complete administrative tasks to the required standard and adhere to audit requirements.
• Work towards budgeted occupancy levels by minimising out-of-order rooms each month.
• Carry out the Preventative Maintenance Programme to protect the hotel's physical assets.
• Follow Disaster Management and Health and Safety requirements.
• Coordinate daily operations, property inspections, minor repairs, stocktakes and special projects, and work with management to coordinate service providers and outsourced tasks.
• Maintain and enhance group brand standards and look for ways to improve the group's product, service, productivity and efficiency.
• Build professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders and create an environment where guests receive excellent service.
• Take part in legislative and operational training and develop personal growth plans.

Required profile

• Grade 10-12 or equivalent education; computer literacy, especially Microsoft Office, is advantageous.
• At least 1 year of proven experience as a handyman.
• Familiarity with swimming pool maintenance.
• The job involves long hours and shifts, and requires prolonged standing, awkward postures, repetitive movements, manual handling and exposure to stressors.
• Handling of company funds requires a fraud and credit check.

Required skills

• Basic fault finding and maintenance: electrical, plumbing, painting and building.
• Use of tools such as drills, power saws and blowers.
• Temperature verification with an infrared gun and basic knowledge of energy management and sustainability.
• Basic knowledge of common hotel equipment (rooms, gym, pool), pest control and generators.
