Senior Clearing Agent (Route Controller)

About the role

Trade Ocean is seeking an experienced Senior Clearing Agent to manage route control for sea and air freight shipments. The role involves overseeing end‑to‑end logistics, ensuring compliance with customs regulations, and coordinating with shipping lines, ports and third‑party inspectors.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, verify and process shipment instructions and documentation.
• Plan and coordinate sea‑freight and air‑freight movements.
• Manage import, export and cross‑border documentation in line with customs and regulatory requirements.
• Apply tariff structures, calculate shipment costs and ensure accurate client invoicing.
• Handle cartage, transport coordination and controlled‑goods procedures, including perishable and dangerous goods.
• Coordinate routing across local and international networks and liaise with inspection authorities.
• Manage bond processes, customs acquittals and prepare customs entries.
• Track cargo from origin to final delivery or arrival point.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (Matric) qualification.
• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Clearing Agent/Route Controller in the clearing industry.
• Proven experience with ASYCUDA World.
• Strong knowledge of import and export clearing procedures, customs regulations, shipping lines and port operations.
• Experience with general cargo logistics, freight forwarding and controlled‑goods handling is advantageous.
