About the role
FNB Short Term Insurance is looking for a senior finance leader to drive financial strategy and governance for its short‑term insurance business. The Chief Financial Officer will partner with business stakeholders, provide insight into actuarial and financial results, and ensure the delivery of accurate, timely financial services.
Key responsibilities
- Align financial strategy, forecasts and capital requirements with the company’s strategic objectives.
- Lead month‑end, year‑end, statutory, management and board reporting, including interpretation of IFRS 17 results.
- Maintain robust financial controls, data integrity and compliance with insurance legislation, prudential requirements and accounting standards.
- Review and challenge actuarial results, reserving movements, valuation assumptions and claims experience.
- Provide financial insight to executive management and the board while managing relationships with regulators, auditors and actuarial teams.
- Drive capital management, solvency oversight, liquidity planning and capital allocation decisions.
- Lead and develop a high‑performing finance team, fostering accountability and continuous improvement.
- Support product profitability, pricing, reinsurance arrangements and strategic initiatives through rigorous financial analysis.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting and scenario modelling, incorporating claims trends and market conditions.
Required profile
- Chartered Accountant qualification or equivalent professional designation.
- Post‑graduate qualification in Finance or Business (advantageous).
- At least 10 years of finance experience, including senior finance leadership within insurance or financial services.
- Proven experience leading finance teams and managing comprehensive reporting cycles.
- Strong commercial acumen and ability to translate complex financial data into strategic insight.
Required skills
- In‑depth knowledge of IFRS 17 reporting standards.
- Experience with actuarial result analysis and reserving.
- Capital management, solvency and liquidity planning expertise.
- Financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting proficiency.
- Understanding of insurance legislation, prudential requirements and internal governance frameworks.
