About the role
The Section Planner for Town Planning will lead a municipal planning unit, ensuring the delivery of high-quality town-planning services to the community. The role involves guiding development projects, enforcing planning policies, and supporting the city’s growth objectives.
Key responsibilities
- Manage and direct the Town Planning Section, overseeing staff and daily operations.
- Evaluate building plans and approve residential occupational and shebeen applications.
- Enforce regulations against illegal land use and ensure compliance with zoning laws.
- Upgrade and maintain the E-Planner system, incorporating cadastral and zoning updates.
- Provide technical comments to Property Management on erf applications for public open-space projects (minimum 10 m²).
- Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures.
Required profile
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Urban Planning, Town Planning, Architecture or a related field.
- Proven experience in municipal or government planning environments.
- Strong understanding of planning legislation, zoning, and cadastral systems.
- Leadership and team-management capabilities.
Required skills
- Proficiency with the E-Planner planning software.
- Ability to assess building and land-use applications against regulatory criteria.
- Knowledge of cadastral data and zoning frameworks.
