Rigger

About the role

NamPower (Pty) Ltd, an equal opportunity employer, is recruiting a Rigger for its Finance & Treasury Management business unit, reporting to the Principal Transport Officer. The Rigger safely plans and executes rigging operations for the lifting, movement and positioning of heavy equipment, machinery and materials in line with NamPower's safety and operational standards.

Key responsibilities

• Safely plan, prepare and execute rigging, lifting, positioning and movement of heavy equipment and materials.
• Inspect, certify, maintain and safely store slings, chains, hooks, wires, shackles and other rigging equipment.
• Ensure compliance with NamPower SHEW requirements, risk assessments, safety procedures and applicable legislation.
• Ensure mobile cranes, TMC and other equipment are operated, inspected and maintained according to OEM requirements.
• Coordinate with crane operators, drivers, engineers and supervisors for safe and efficient lifting and transport.
• Maintain rigging records, inspection reports, permits, checklists and risk assessments in line with QMS standards.
• Work effectively with internal and external stakeholders and take part in training and process improvement.

Required profile

• Grade 12 certificate.
• National Trade Diploma as a Rigger from a recognised institution or training provider.
• At least 3 years of proven experience as a Rigger in heavy industrial, construction, mining or utility environments.
• Experience with various rigging equipment and heavy lifting, including large and unconventional loads.
• Additional certification in heavy equipment operation (e.g. mobile crane) is advantageous.

Required skills

• In-depth knowledge of rigging principles, load dynamics, weight distribution and centre of gravity.
• Proficiency selecting, inspecting and using rigging hardware and lifting equipment.
• Ability to read rigging plans, blueprints and engineering drawings.
• Knowledge of knots, hitches and splicing techniques.
