Housekeeper

About the role

The Housekeeper will ensure that hospital environments—including patient areas, operating theatres, kitchens and linen facilities—are maintained to the highest standards of hygiene and safety. This role also oversees the preparation of nutritious meals for patients and supports the hospital’s sustainability initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate general assistants across housekeeping, catering and laundry functions.
• Manage housekeeping, catering and laundry equipment and stock levels.
• Maintain hygienically clean hospital areas, theatres, kitchens and linen services.
• Ensure patients receive appropriate, nutritious meals.
• Carry out duties related to environmental sustainability.

Required profile

• Grade 12 education.
• Supervisory experience in housekeeping and catering.
• Preferred experience in a healthcare or hospital setting.

Required skills

• Knowledge of cleaning materials, equipment, chemicals and detergents.
• Understanding of hospital cleaning and disinfection principles.
• Stock control principles.
• Familiarity with healthcare/hospital hygiene and safety policies.
• Knowledge of linen categories, functionalities and sorting.
• Patient safety principles and IPC protocols.
• Computer literacy, particularly Microsoft Office.
