Assistant Operations Manager

About the role

The Assistant Operations Manager will support the Operations Manager in overseeing stock control, warehouse activities and team performance. This role ensures operational effectiveness, client satisfaction and compliance with health, safety and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, manage and motivate a team of supervisors, invoicing clerks, forklift operators, stores assistants and office support staff.
• Coordinate daily warehouse operations, identify process‑improvement opportunities and drive cost‑saving initiatives.
• Maintain warehouse housekeeping, oversee stock taking, inventory counts and reconciliation of deliveries, shortages and damages.
• Manage inbound and outbound stock flows, including picking, loading trucks (own and third‑party) and ensuring accurate dispatch.
• Monitor operational risk, report progress against plans and adjust activities as needed.
• Assist the Operations Manager, share shifts, and act as the manager’s backup during leave.
• Uphold HACCP and Health & Safety standards throughout the facility.

Required profile

• Grade 12 secondary education (additional qualifications are a plus).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a related industry, preferably FMCG.
• Proven ability to lead a team of 20+ employees.
• Strong understanding of warehouse and distribution processes.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ERP systems for warehouse and distribution management.
• Working knowledge of HACCP standards.
• Familiarity with Health & Safety regulations.
