Tourism and Park Development Consultant

About the role

The Integrated Rural Development and Nature Conservation (IRDNC) is seeking a Tourism & Park Development Consultant to provide strategic and technical support for the People’s Parks initiative in Namibia’s Kunene Region. Reporting to the Executive Director and working under the Project Manager, the consultant will back the establishment of community‑owned parks and ensure sustainable tourism development.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and promote the People’s Parks vision through the Legacy Landscape Skeleton Coast‑Etosha Bridge project and neighbouring concession areas.
• Provide capacity development on institutional arrangements, governance and tourism planning for park managers and conservancy committees.
• Support donor funding proposals, prepare progress reports, and facilitate partnerships with tour operators and investors.
• Mentor project managers, monitor work plans and budgets, and advise on strategic issues, conflict resolution and advocacy.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or equivalent in tourism development, park planning, conservation or related fields.
• Minimum 12 years of experience in tourism and park development, including at least 5 years in community development programmes.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Kunene Region’s environment and cultural norms.
• Proven ability to collaborate with government, NGOs, private sector and local communities.
