Product Development & Community Liaison Officer

About the role

The Product Development & Community Liaison Officer is responsible for researching, analysing, and aligning tourism product development initiatives with existing tourism legislation, policy frameworks, and regulatory requirements. The role ensures tourism offerings are innovative, marketable, and compliant with national and local regulations, standards, and sustainability practices.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse and interpret tourism laws, regulations, and standards to guide product development initiatives.
• Ensure new and existing tourism products meet all statutory and regulatory requirements.
• Assist in identifying and developing new tourism products such as cultural, rural, and eco‑tourism.
• Provide guidance to tourism entrepreneurs on regulatory requirements when developing offerings.
• Collaborate with government departments, municipalities, tourism businesses, and communities to facilitate compliant tourism development.
• Contribute to the review and development of tourism‑related policies and guidelines.
• Promote tourism products that comply with sustainable development goals and support inclusion of women, youth, and rural communities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in Economics, Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Development Studies, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in enterprise development, SME support, or economic development, preferably within the tourism sector.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and networking capabilities.
• Strong project management and strategic planning acumen.
• Analytical mindset with ability to present data‑driven insights.
• Willingness to travel and work extended hours when required, and a full, current driver’s licence.
