Equipment Coordinator – Port Operations

About the role

The Equipment Coordinator will be based in the Hapag-Lloyd Namibia office in Walvis Bay and will oversee all cargo‑related equipment activities at the port. You will act as the main liaison between the terminal, vessel agents, and inland service providers to ensure smooth and efficient vessel stays.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and monitor cargo operations, including load, discharge, and vessel finalisation.
• Provide cost estimates and arrange handling for special cargo such as break‑bulk and out‑of‑gauge shipments.
• Support dangerous‑goods handling, ensuring compliance with safety regulations for Class 1 and 7 containers.
• Manage damaged or leaking containers, coordinating documentation and corrective actions.
• Arrange customs inspections, surveys and local port formalities, maintaining compliance with all regulations.
• Represent Hapag‑Lloyd within the port community, fostering positive relationships with authorities and pilot stations.
• Facilitate commercial visits and ensure timely updates of operational information for the terminal.
• Participate in terminal performance meetings and keep stakeholders informed of tariff or regulatory changes.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of port and cargo operations.
• Excellent communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Attention to detail and commitment to safety and compliance.

Required skills

• Knowledge of dangerous‑goods regulations and handling procedures.
• Familiarity with special cargo (break‑bulk, OOG) coordination.
• Experience with customs and port formalities.
