Financial Controller

About the role

The Financial Controller will ensure a robust financial control framework across the operating unit, meeting both internal and external governance requirements. This role oversees accounting policies, month‑end closing, tax compliance and the effectiveness of key financial controls.

Key responsibilities

• Implement Group financial accounting policies and standards throughout the operating unit and related joint ventures.
• Manage the monthly closing process, adhering to the established timetable.
• Maintain and monitor controls over the ERP system, ensuring they are effective and consistently applied.
• Oversee stock, fixed‑asset, accounts payable and accounts receivable controls to guarantee accuracy and timeliness.
• Ensure compliance with all company taxes (VAT, duties, levies, withholding tax, income tax) in line with group policies and local legislation.
• Analyse and reconcile product margins monthly, investigating any discrepancies.
• Apply the Manual of Authority consistently and support external auditors for all legal entities.
• Supervise bank and balance‑sheet reconciliations in partnership with the Finance Manager.
• Safeguard financial data, records and archives.

Required profile

• Finance or Accounting degree (B.Tech Honours, CTA preferred); Chartered Accountant qualification is a distinct advantage.
• Minimum 5 years of accounting experience with at least 1 year in a managerial capacity.
• Knowledge of integrated accounting systems and Microsoft Office suite.
• Understanding of local customs, excise duties, VAT, withholding and corporate tax laws.
• Strong analytical, conceptual and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to lead a team.
• Experience in the finance function of the oil industry is advantageous.
