Deputy Magazine Master

About the role

The Deputy Magazine Master supports the safe receipt, storage, and dispatch of products within a high‑security magazine environment. The role oversees loaders, ensures compliance with SHERQ and legislative standards, and safeguards inventory while maintaining efficient warehouse operations.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate, supervise and monitor all magazine activities, using space and mechanical handling equipment efficiently.
• Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures, regulations and legislation for receiving, put‑away, picking, loading and cycle counts.
• Perform vehicle pre‑use checks and oversee loading and dispatch of products in line with regulatory requirements.
• Conduct inventory cycle counts, investigate discrepancies and maintain accurate perpetual stock records.
• Organise stock to maximise space utilisation, implement floor‑to‑matching systems and FIFO management.
• Supervise loaders, manage daily tasks, work instructions, schedules and overtime rosters.
• Maintain housekeeping standards in the magazine and yard to meet SHERQ and safety requirements.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (or equivalent) with a Magazine Master Certificate or recognised blasting experience (5‑10 years).
• Valid Code B driving licence and a Police Certificate of Conduct.
• Minimum 2 years experience as a blasting assistant and 2 years material‑handling experience.
• Experience in transportation and storage of blasting accessories/explosives; 1 year in an explosives production environment is advantageous.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of warehouse management principles and best practices.
• Proficiency with warehouse software and systems applications.
• Knowledge of perpetual stock counts, inventory accuracy measures and FIFO processes.
• Understanding of relevant legislative and regulatory requirements, including the Explosives Act and SHERQ standards.
