Ukrainian Interpreter (English/Ukrainian)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee seeks a qualified Ukrainian Interpreter to provide accurate, impartial, and confidential interpretation for Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals across a range of service settings. The role may involve in‑person, telephone, video‑conference, or other virtual formats, supporting the organization’s humanitarian mission.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver professional interpretation between English and Ukrainian for clients in clinics, hospitals, schools, community organizations, and government agencies.
• Maintain accurate records of assignments and work hours using the designated software system.
• Participate in required trainings, assessments, and occasional special projects.
• Provide interpretation services on‑site, remotely, or in the field as needed, including occasional evenings or weekends.

Required profile

• Interpretation certification (required).
• Minimum one year of professional interpretation experience, preferably with refugee or immigrant populations.
• High school diploma preferred; formal education in linguistics or a related field is a plus.
• Reliable transportation to appointment locations.

Required skills

• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Native or near‑native spoken proficiency in Ukrainian.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
• Strong cultural sensitivity and ability to build trust with diverse clients.
