Superintendent - Resources & Evaluation

About the role

Swakop Uranium is looking for a Superintendent for Resources & Evaluation in Swakopmund, Namibia. The role manages and monitors maintenance functions so that the mine achieves optimal availability, utilisation and performance of its resources, supporting production targets and profitability in a safe, efficient and cost-effective way. It is a middle-management position on a permanent basis.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all maintenance activities in the area of responsibility so that production targets are met efficiently against planned volumes of uranium ore concentrate.
• Ensure all work is carried out legally and safely, and investigate and analyse causes of production delays and deviations, directing staff on corrective action.
• Maintain effective communication with other sections to resolve problems and improve efficiency and throughput.
• Compile and analyse management reports, and prepare and control annual budgets.
• Review and approve planned engineering maintenance, and evaluate, approve and manage modifications, improvements, processes and procedures.
• Ensure consistent implementation of standards, policies and procedures for statutory and legal compliance.
• Initiate regular system validations for quality control and assurance, and assess and recommend cost-effective processes.
• Recommend and implement continual improvements, new technology and best practices to increase cost effectiveness.

Required profile

• B.Sc, B.Eng or BTech degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; an Honours degree is an added advantage.
• 8 years of experience in a mining maintenance environment, including 3 years in a managerial capacity.
• Valid Code B/BE driver's licence.
• Registration with a professional body is an added advantage.
