Senior Network Engineer

About the role

Design, implement, manage and optimise complex network and communication infrastructures in line with BCX standards and customer requirements. The role also involves developing network architectures, maintaining performance, and providing technical guidance to the team.

Key responsibilities

• Design, evaluate and document complex network architectures and communication systems.
• Manage, maintain and optimise network infrastructure to meet availability, performance and reliability commitments.
• Troubleshoot, analyse and resolve complex network incidents, identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
• Implement approved network changes following change‑management processes.
• Initiate, plan and contribute to network projects, including testing, implementation, documentation and handover.
• Monitor network performance, identify risks and recommend improvements.
• Conduct technical research and evaluate new network technologies relevant to BCX and its customers.
• Provide technical support and guidance to users, colleagues and stakeholders.
• Mentor team members and share knowledge to strengthen technical capability.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation, reports and design records.

Required profile

• Grade 12 plus relevant diploma or NQF Level 6/7 qualification.
• Four to six years of IT experience, with at least four years in networks and communications.
• Experience contributing to or delivering technical projects.
• Strong reporting, documentation, communication and customer‑service skills.
• Effective time management, prioritisation and meticulous attention to detail.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of network architectures and communication systems.
• Practical experience with dynamic routing protocols: BGP, OSPF and EIGRP.
• Understanding of ITIL principles and operational processes.
• Network testing, troubleshooting, performance monitoring and quality assurance.
• Cisco CCNP certification.
• Fortinet NSE5 or higher certification.
• Check Point certifications (CCSA/CCSE/CCTE) – advantageous.
• Aruba certifications (ACXA‑CA/ACPA‑CA/ACP‑CA/ACX‑CAS) – advantageous.
