Senior Actuarial Supervisor

About the role

Old Mutual is seeking a Senior Actuarial Supervisor to lead valuation, financial reporting and product support activities across its life insurance portfolio. The role combines technical actuarial expertise with stakeholder engagement to ensure accurate results and strategic insight.

Key responsibilities

• Consolidate and submit valuation results under IFRS 17, MCEV and SAM frameworks.
• Present valuation outcomes to Business Unit executives and senior management.
• Produce monthly financial monitoring reports and analyse results outside valuation periods.
• Develop business plans and forecasts to estimate future financial impacts of strategy.
• Deliver quarterly valuations for corporate segments and cell captives.
• Extract insights for business decisions and collaborate with finance and valuation teams.
• Support product development, product reviews and ongoing product monitoring.
• Prepare quarterly risk reports, including market risk assessments.
• Provide reinsurance support such as GAP reinsurance reviews and NamibRe submissions.
• Manage monthly product meetings with BU executives and track deliverables.

Required profile

• Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa or the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (UK).
• More than five years’ experience in life insurance actuarial work.
• Client‑focused with the ability to make balanced, sound recommendations.
• Self‑motivated and able to work accurately under tight time constraints.
• Strong analytical, integrative and systems thinking capabilities.
• Excellent communication skills to convey complex actuarial information to non‑technical audiences.
• Experience mentoring junior actuarial specialists.
• Proven ability to engage across disciplines and proactively solve day‑to‑day issues.
