Safety Officer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Safety Officer to join the site operations team of a leading engineering and infrastructure contractor in Tsumeb, Namibia. The role is ideal for a proactive HSE professional who thrives in a fast‑paced construction environment and is committed to fostering a strong safety culture.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with health & safety legislation, company procedures, and client requirements.
• Conduct daily site inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
• Investigate incidents and manage reporting through to close‑out.
• Maintain health & safety documentation, registers, and records.
• Deliver toolbox talks and promote safety awareness across the site.
• Monitor corrective actions and ensure findings are closed out.
• Support the Site Manager with health & safety compliance.
• Manage PPE and safety equipment.
• Liaise with employees, supervisors, and management on HSE matters.
• Assist with emergency preparedness activities and site administration.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent.
• Diploma or Certificate in Health & Safety Management.
• Minimum 4 years’ experience as a Safety Officer in the construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of construction health & safety legislation and standards.
• Experience conducting site inspections, audits, incident investigations, and risk assessments.
• Good administrative and reporting skills.
• Strong communication, organisational, and problem‑solving abilities.

Required skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
