About the role
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a motivated Refugee Resettlement Intern for the Spring 2026 term. You will support the resettlement team in preparing housing, assisting newcomers with essential services, and helping them achieve economic self‑sufficiency during their first months in the United States.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with home set‑ups before client arrival, including lifting, moving, unpacking, assembling, and transporting furniture and supplies.
- Complete applications for public benefits such as Medicaid, Social Security cards, and other eligible programs.
- Conduct on‑site bus orientation sessions to familiarize clients with local public transit.
- Refer clients to external services, including English language classes and medical screenings.
- Make check‑in calls and send messages to monitor unresolved service needs and provide guidance under supervisor supervision.
- Research and compile community resources to fill service gaps.
- Record client interactions and service provision in Microsoft Excel and internal databases to meet funder reporting requirements.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the casework supervisor.
Required profile
- Current undergraduate or graduate student, or less than 12 months out of school.
- Available to work 24–32 hours per week during the Spring 2026 term.
- Strong interest in humanitarian work and refugee resettlement.
Required skills
- Microsoft Excel
