Magazine Master

About the role

The Magazine Master is responsible for the receipt, dispatch, and safe storage of products, including explosives and blasting accessories. This role ensures that magazine operations run efficiently, complies with safety and legislative standards, and supports overall plant productivity.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate, supervise and monitor all magazine activities using space and mechanical handling equipment.
• Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures, regulations and legislation for receiving, put‑away, picking, loading and cycle counts.
• Perform vehicle pre‑use checks and oversee loading and dispatch of products.
• Conduct inventory cycle counts, investigate discrepancies and maintain accurate stock records.
• Organise stock to maximise space utilisation, enforce FIFO and maintain a planned storage layout.
• Supervise loaders, manage daily tasks, schedules and overtime rosters.
• Maintain housekeeping standards in the magazine and yard to meet SHERQ and legislative requirements.

Required profile

• Grade 12 qualification.
• Valid Code B driving licence.
• Magazine Master Certificate or Certificate of Conduct from police.
• At least 2 years experience in blasting assistance or material handling.
• Experience in transportation and storage of blasting accessories or explosives (advantageous).

Required skills

• Warehouse management knowledge and best practices.
• Inventory control and perpetual stock count techniques.
• Understanding of relevant legislative and regulatory requirements, including the Explosives Act.
• SHERQ (Safety, Health, Environment, Risk & Quality) compliance.
• Proficiency with warehouse software and systems applications.
