Hospital Porter (Relief Worker)

About the role

The Hospital Porter (Relief Worker) supports daily hospital operations by safely transporting patients, equipment, files and other items between departments. Working on a flexible relief basis, you will help maintain high standards of care and ensure smooth logistical flow within the facility.

Key responsibilities

• Transport and escort patients to predetermined locations while ensuring safety and confidentiality.
• Move equipment, medical files and other items between departments as required.
• Assist with patient evacuations during emergency situations.
• Perform driver duties when requested, adhering to hospital guidelines.
• Support internal emergency evacuation plans and follow health‑and‑safety regulations.

Required profile

• Minimum education: Grade 10.
• Experience in client services or public interaction.
• Preferably some exposure to healthcare environments.
• Ability to read, speak and write English.

Required skills

• Licence with PDP (Professional Development Programme).
• Knowledge of patient rights charter and medico‑legal risks.
• Proficiency with two‑way radio communication systems.
• Computer literacy, especially Microsoft Office.
• Understanding of health and safety legislation and internal evacuation procedures.
