Education AmeriCorps Member – Youth Services

About the role

The Education AmeriCorps member joins the Youth Services team at the International Rescue Committee to support newly arrived youth and young adult refugees and immigrants. This service‑focused role assists participants in achieving their personal, educational, and career goals.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and lead after‑school sessions, workshops, tutoring, job‑shadowing, and other activities.
• Coordinate program volunteers and document attendance and related information.
• Provide transportation for participants to attend group activities as needed.
• Assess the needs of families and youth enrolling in programs; assist with orientations, intakes, and school enrollments.
• Recruit, screen, and match mentors with youth; provide follow‑up support to ensure ongoing participation.
• Research and share career pathway information; help clients enroll in preschool, GED, training programs, and enrichment activities.
• Participate in program meetings, development activities, and assist staff with data entry and scheduling.

Required profile

• Commit to completing 900 service hours by August 31 2026.
• Eligible for a $3,690 Education Award upon completion.
• Interest in education, youth work, or social work.
• Strong written and spoken English; bilingual ability in a predominant local language is strongly desired.
• Experience working in a multicultural environment.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
• At least 18 years old.
• High‑school graduate, GED recipient, or working toward a high‑school diploma/GED during the term.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
