Commercial Risk Surveyor

About the role

Santam Namibia is seeking a Commercial Risk Surveyor to join its underwriting team in Windhoek. You will travel to client facilities, assess physical risk exposures and provide detailed reports that support accurate underwriting decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Travel to client sites to conduct comprehensive risk surveys of commercial, industrial and agricultural facilities.
• Identify and recommend risk‑management and risk‑reduction measures.
• Calculate maximum probable loss (MPL) scenarios and perform business interruption assessments.
• Prepare detailed risk reports, including recommendations for risk mitigation.
• Communicate findings to brokers, insured staff and internal underwriters.
• Complete mandatory theoretical and practical training programmes in Namibia and South Africa.
• Collaborate with management and internal stakeholders as required.

Required profile

• Relevant engineering degree or diploma, or extensive fire‑brigade experience.
• 1‑3 years of risk surveying or related technical risk management experience.
• Matriculation (high‑school) qualification.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Knowledge of occupational health & safety, fire hazards, construction materials and natural hazards such as flood, wind and storms.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office 365.
• Experience using policy information systems.
