About the role
The Children’s Legal Services (CLS) Intern will support CLS staff in providing legal assistance to unaccompanied youth facing immigration removal proceedings. This summer internship offers hands‑on experience with case management, legal research, and client communication under the supervision of an immigration attorney.
Key responsibilities
- Assist staff in setting up client consultations and drafting immigration applications under attorney supervision.
- Conduct factual, legal, and social‑service research to support asylum and other immigration filings.
- Monitor the status of clients’ immigration court removal proceedings.
- Sort, scan, and file documents to maintain up‑to‑date client files.
- Provide follow‑up communication with clients and respect confidentiality policies.
- Offer occasional translation and interpretation in Spanish when fluent.
- Perform other clerical and administrative duties as assigned.
Required profile
- Availability to work a minimum of 15 hours per week, with preference for full‑time (up to 37.5 hours/week).
- Undergraduate level studies or equivalent experience in public service or community work.
- Spanish language proficiency is a plus but not required.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to cultural differences and commitment to client privacy.
