Senior Employment Specialist

About the role

The Senior Employment Specialist supports newly arrived refugees and qualified immigrants in achieving self‑sufficiency through employment. Working within the International Rescue Committee, you will guide clients through job‑readiness preparation, connect them with employment opportunities, and provide ongoing career support. The role also includes mentoring team members and contributing to program quality assurance.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct intake, assessments, and program orientation for clients eligible for employment services.
• Develop individualized employment plans and budgeting strategies.
• Provide job‑readiness coaching, job search assistance, and connect clients with suitable job openings.
• Build and maintain relationships with local employers and staffing agencies.
• Assist clients and employers with post‑placement issues and monitor job performance.
• Document client interactions in databases and generate reports as required.
• Collaborate with colleagues, partner organizations, and service providers.
• Travel within the service area using personal or public transportation to support clients.
• Train new team members and guide colleagues on daily challenges.
• Participate in program quality assurance activities and supervise support staff, volunteers, or interns as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field (preferred).
• Minimum 1 year of experience providing job readiness and placement services to refugee populations (2 years preferred).
• Experience in onboarding and training staff is advantageous.
