Engineering Surveyor

About the role

The Engineering Surveyor will plan and execute topographic surveys, develop digital terrain models, and establish survey control systems to support design and construction activities for SMEC Namibia. The role also includes technical support for survey‑control compliance, construction progress reporting, and quantity measurement for payment certification.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate engineering land surveys and collate existing survey data.
• Conduct ground surveys to create digital terrain models (DTM) and establish survey ground controls.
• Perform survey control levelling, post‑process survey data, and train junior personnel.
• Inspect traffic accommodation and environmental compliance, reporting findings.
• Verify designs, create digital design models, confirm setting‑out data, and propose design amendments.
• Liaise with contractors, sub‑contractors, client representatives, and local authorities; prepare and present data.
• Carry out quantity measurements for completed works and prepare interim payment certificates.
• Assist the Resident Engineer with quality control, financial workflows, and drafting contractor instructions.
• Maintain documentation and record control, ensuring up‑to‑date design drawings are available.
• Measure, analyse, and report on construction progress.

Required profile

• Honours Degree or B‑Tech in Land Surveying.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
• Strong numeracy and financial management abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office.
• Proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D, Model Maker, Road Maker.
• Experience operating drones and GPS/GNSS survey equipment.
