About the role
The Senior Operations Engineer will assist in managing terminal operations, processes, maintenance programs and execute capital investment projects to achieve best‑in‑class performance while ensuring compliance with VE HSSEQ and country regulations. The role supports the Terminal Manager, oversees day‑to‑day activities, optimises performance to meet KPIs and provides technical support to Marine, Lubricants and Commercial Projects in a shift operation.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver the maintenance program according to the VE Engineering Maintenance Guide and execute capital investment projects end‑to‑end within approved budget and timelines.
- Support and lead day‑to‑day terminal activities to optimise performance and achieve set KPIs.
- Lead strategic cost‑optimization initiatives and manage the financial viability of terminal projects while adhering to budget constraints.
- Support inventory and loss‑prevention by maintaining accurate stock records and implementing controls to keep product losses below 0.2%.
- Manage asset movement, disposal and oversee stock management systems to minimise working capital tied up in excess stock.
- Monitor and manage vessel operations to ensure turnaround efficiency and compliance with charter party terms, safeguarding the terminal’s P&L.
- Ensure product quality assurance so that all product grades consistently meet contractual specifications.
- Lead and enforce HSSEQ policies, ensuring continuous compliance with national, Vivo Energy and international standards (JIG, ISGOTT, DOR).
- Liaise with external stakeholders and regulatory authorities, including ministries, port authority, NamRA and others.
- Manage and appraise performance of service providers for maintenance, projects and other services to achieve set KPIs.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised university.
- Minimum of four years’ engineering experience in an industrial, process, energy, petroleum or related environment.
- Experience within the downstream petroleum industry is an advantage.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Demonstrated experience in maintenance management, project execution, contractor management and terminal or plant operations.
- Strong understanding of HSSEQ management systems and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in SAP, Microsoft Office applications and Computer‑Aided Design (CAD) software.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Sound knowledge of maintenance systems and engineering best practices.
