Assistant Underwriting Manager – Commercial & Personal Lines

About the role

We are seeking an Assistant Underwriting Manager to lead a team of underwriting professionals in both commercial and personal lines. The role involves overseeing complex risk assessments, ensuring compliance with underwriting policies, and supporting the development of underwriting standards.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a team of underwriters, reviewing their work for adherence to policies and guidelines.
• Underwrite large or complex risks and provide final approval for subordinate submissions.
• Recommend and implement changes to underwriting policies and procedures.
• Lead operational projects and ensure timely delivery of customer service standards.
• Monitor performance, coach staff, and maintain high quality of daily processing.
• Develop and maintain procedural documentation and stakeholder relationships.

Required profile

• Namibian citizen with NQF Level 7 tertiary qualification in Finance, Business Administration or Economics.
• 5‑10 years experience in short‑term insurance, including 2‑3 years in a supervisory role.
• Strong business acumen, numerical ability and excellent verbal and written communication.
• Ability to work under pressure and deliver results.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office applications.
• Practical knowledge of reinsurance, including FAC and treaty structures.
