Legal and Compliance Officer

About the role

The Legal and Compliance Officer will provide legal support across multiple business units at Old Mutual Namibia, preparing legal documents, advising on policy wording and ensuring compliance with insurance regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice to the Claims, Recoveries, Liability and Litigation teams.
• Review and improve OMSIC policy wordings to minimise invalid claims.
• Participate in or lead litigation matters as required.
• Analyse new legislation, regulations, practice notes and circulars affecting OMSIC and produce impact assessments.
• Review, sign‑off and monitor OMSIC Standard Operating Procedures.
• Identify, assess and mitigate legal, operational and compliance risks.
• Manage audit findings, report to stakeholders and support risk‑management initiatives.
• Assist the Operations Manager in embedding a culture of compliance and develop monitoring plans.
• Represent OMSIC on internal risk, legal and compliance forums and contribute to projects and KPI monitoring.

Required profile

• Namibian citizenship.
• LLB degree (NQF Level 7) or equivalent legal qualification.
• Own vehicle and a valid driver’s licence.
• 4–6 years of experience in a legal environment, preferably within short‑term insurance.
• Strong attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication, and the ability to work independently.
• Good numeric and computer literacy, high energy, team‑oriented mindset and solid time‑management skills.
