Health Safety Environment Officer

About the role

MSALABS is seeking a proactive Health Safety Environment (HSE) Officer to join its geochemical laboratory team in Omaruru, Namibia. You will be responsible for maintaining a safe and compliant work environment, ensuring that all equipment and facility systems operate efficiently while adhering to local and international safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Follow all HSE protocols, maintain proper housekeeping, and manage chemicals and hazardous substances safely.
• Conduct on‑site accident investigations and report findings.
• Train and advise management, supervisors, and staff on health, safety, and environmental procedures.
• Perform regular inspections of fire, safety, and environmental equipment, facilities, and buildings, and follow up on any deficiencies.
• Respond to unsafe conditions, hazard reports, and emergency situations promptly.
• Coordinate medical case follow‑up and arrange hospital or clinic appointments.
• Develop Job Safety Analyses, competency assessments, and continuous risk assessments to create safe work and operating procedures.
• Lead safety meetings, communicate safety issues with clients, and maintain compliance with Isometrics.
• Manage hazardous waste disposal, monitor hazardous material usage, and keep up‑to‑date with regulatory changes.
• Book PCR tests when required and track corrective actions to closure.

Required profile

• Hands‑on problem‑solver with a strong technical background in mechanical and electrical systems.
• Experience in laboratory or industrial environments, preferably within geochemical or related sectors.
• Ability to conduct investigations, deliver training, and communicate safety matters clearly.
• Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high safety standards.
