Health, Safety & Environment Officer

About the role

MSALABS is seeking a hands‑on Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Officer to join its laboratory team in Omaruru, Namibia. You will ensure that all equipment, facilities and processes operate safely, comply with regulations, and minimise downtime.

Key responsibilities

• Follow all HSE protocols, maintain proper housekeeping and safe handling of chemicals and hazardous substances.
• Investigate accidents on‑site and produce reports.
• Train, advise and support management, supervisors and staff on HSE procedures and regulatory compliance.
• Conduct regular inspections of fire, safety and environmental equipment, facilities and buildings; recommend remedial actions.
• Respond to unsafe conditions, hazard reports and emergency cases.
• Manage medical case follow‑up and arrange hospital or clinic appointments.
• Perform Job Safety Analyses, competency assessments and continuous risk assessments to develop Safe Work and Operating Procedures.
• Lead safety meetings and communicate safety issues with the client.
• Maintain hazardous waste disposal records, monitor usage and ensure proper disposition.
• Track hazards, update the hazard register and close corrective actions.
• Provide safety inductions for new employees and visitors.

Required profile

• Dedicated professional with a strong technical background in mechanical and electrical systems.
• Experience in laboratory or industrial HSE environments.
• Ability to conduct investigations, inspections and risk assessments.
• Strong communication skills for training and client interaction.
