Tactical Buyer – Procurement Operations

About the role

The Tactical Buyer will be responsible for accurate and timely purchase requisition (PR) to purchase order (PO) processing across assigned spend categories. The role ensures compliance with buying policies, secures proper approvals, and maintains audit‑ready documentation while supporting supplier onboarding and catalogue management.

Key responsibilities

• Create accurate POs in line with policy and delegation of authority, attaching required documents such as quotes and statements of work.
• Execute call‑offs against framework agreements and minimise free‑text POs.
• Manage PO changes and expedites, coordinating with suppliers and end users to meet delivery dates.
• Apply buying channel rules (catalogue, call‑off, comparative quote, spot) correctly for each transaction.
• Maintain complete, audit‑ready files and support internal audits and spot checks.
• Enforce comparative quote standards for purchases between R100,000 and R1,000,000.
• Resolve GR/IR exceptions by liaising with Accounts Payable and end users.
• Assist with supplier onboarding, catalogue updates, and educate end users on best practices.
• Track KPIs such as cycle time, first‑time‑right, compliance, and catalogue adoption, proposing improvements where needed.

Required profile

• Diploma in Procurement or Procurement Operations (mandatory).
• Relevant experience in medium‑spend procurement, comparative quote processes, and spot purchases.
• Strong understanding of buying compliance, audit requirements, and supplier management.
