About the role
We are seeking an experienced Sand Blaster to support upcoming petrochemical projects across South Africa and Namibia. You will prepare metal surfaces on industrial structures such as fuel tanks, pipelines, and steel frameworks for coating applications, ensuring compliance with project specifications and safety standards.
Key responsibilities
- Perform abrasive blasting on steel surfaces to achieve required surface profiles (e.g., SA 2.5).
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot blasting equipment, including hoses, nozzles, and compressors.
- Mix and load abrasive materials according to project needs.
- Mask and protect areas not intended for blasting.
- Comply with all health, safety, and environmental regulations; wear appropriate PPE.
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and report defects.
- Set up and dismantle blasting zones and keep accurate work logs.
- Coordinate with painters, supervisors, and other trades to align surface preparation with coating schedules.
Required profile
- Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate.
- Formal sandblasting certification or recognised industry training.
- Valid Permit‑to‑Work, Working at Heights, Confined Space Entry certificates, and driver’s licence.
- 2–5 years of blasting experience in petrochemical, industrial or heavy‑engineering environments.
- Familiarity with hazardous‑area work, flammable materials, and emergency response procedures.
Required skills
- Abrasive blasting techniques and equipment operation.
- Surface preparation standards (SA 2.5) and grading.
- Permit‑to‑Work system compliance.
- Working at heights and confined space entry procedures.
- Mixing and loading abrasive media.
- Equipment maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
- Interpretation of technical specifications and ISO‑compliant QCPs.
