Legal & Compliance Business Partner

About the role

The Legal & Compliance Business Partner provides expert legal and compliance support to Momentum's short‑term insurance business, ensuring all activities meet regulatory requirements and internal policies. Acting as a strategic partner, the role facilitates risk mitigation, regulatory compliance, and legal governance across operational processes.

Key responsibilities

• Provide timely, practical legal advice on contracts, insurance policies, regulatory requirements and business transactions.
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts, service agreements and vendor agreements to protect company interests.
• Develop, implement and monitor compliance frameworks aligned with the Insurance Act, FAIS and other relevant legislation.
• Conduct compliance risk assessments, audits and recommend corrective actions.
• Coordinate board and committee meetings, maintain statutory registers and ensure compliance with the Companies Act.
• Identify legal and compliance risks in underwriting, claims and other operations, working with risk and underwriting teams to embed controls.
• Design and deliver training sessions to raise compliance awareness across the short‑term business unit.
• Build strong relationships with senior management, internal audit, risk functions and external legal counsel, acting as a trusted advisor.

Required profile

• LLB degree or equivalent legal qualification with relevant legal accreditation.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in legal and compliance roles within the financial services sector, preferably short‑term insurance.
• Experience interacting with regulatory bodies such as NAMFISA is advantageous.
