Legal & Compliance Business Partner

About the role

We are seeking a Legal & Compliance Business Partner to provide expert legal and compliance support to our short‑term insurance business. You will act as a strategic partner, ensuring that all activities comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies while facilitating risk mitigation and governance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide timely legal advice on contracts, insurance policies, regulatory requirements and business transactions.
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts, service and vendor agreements.
• Monitor legislative developments affecting short‑term insurance and advise on implications.
• Develop, implement and monitor compliance frameworks aligned with the Insurance Act, FAIS and other regulations.
• Conduct compliance risk assessments, audits and recommend corrective actions.
• Coordinate board and committee meetings, prepare agendas, minutes and statutory registers.
• Identify legal and compliance risks across products, underwriting and claims, and work with risk and underwriting teams to embed controls.
• Deliver training and communications to raise compliance awareness.
• Build strong relationships with business leaders, internal audit, risk and external counsel.

Required profile

• LLB degree or equivalent legal qualification with relevant accreditation.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in legal and compliance roles within financial services, preferably short‑term insurance.
• Experience interacting with regulatory bodies such as NAMFISA is advantageous.
