In-House General Legal Counsel

About the role

We are seeking an experienced In-House General Legal Counsel to support our mining operations in Namibia. The successful candidate will provide timely, commercial‑focused legal advice to senior management and ensure compliance with all relevant mining legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Advise the senior executive team on all legal aspects of the mining business, including operations, contracts, and regulatory matters.
• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements for plant, machinery, contractors, and the sale of gold and silver.
• Ensure compliance with the Minerals (Prospecting and Mining) Act 33 of 1992 and other Namibian laws, monitoring legislative changes.
• Manage licensing matters, including renewal and amendment applications for Mining and Exploration Licenses.
• Assess the impact of foreign investment and investment promotion legislation on the company and its shareholders.
• Develop and implement policies for health & safety, environment, data protection, anti‑bribery and AML.
• Support HR in union negotiations and employee disciplinary processes.
• Liaise with external counsel, auditors, and regulatory bodies as required.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and/or Master of Laws (LLM).
• Admitted legal practitioner of the High Court of Namibia.
• Namibian citizen or permanent resident with the right to work in Namibia.
• Minimum 7 years post‑qualification experience, preferably in the mining sector.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and provide practical commercial advice.
• Excellent judgment and strong analytical skills.
