Head of Environment & Sustainability

About the role

The company, a leading international energy firm operating in upstream oil & gas, is seeking a Head of Environment & Sustainability to lead environmental compliance, sustainability performance and risk management for its Namibia operations. Reporting to the HSSE Manager, you will ensure that environmental and sustainability requirements are embedded across all activities.

Key responsibilities

• Implement environmental standards, management plans, permit conditions and regulatory requirements across projects and operations.
• Define scopes of work for environmental studies, oversee ESIA, ECC and other permit processes.
• Provide advice on permitting, licensing, biodiversity, waste, emissions, water, hazardous materials and pollution prevention.
• Monitor regulatory changes, track compliance obligations and communicate them to stakeholders and contractors.
• Lead the development and implementation of the Biodiversity Action Plan and waste management processes.
• Act as primary interface with authorities, NGOs, consultants and contractors on environmental matters.
• Support operations by ensuring environmental plans, procedures and mitigation measures are applied, and oversee contractor environmental management systems.
• Coordinate fieldwork, baseline studies, public consultations and lead environmental inspections, risk assessments and incident investigations.

Required profile

• Senior professional with extensive experience in upstream oil & gas environments.
• Strong knowledge of environmental management systems and regulatory compliance.
• Proven track record in conducting audits, data analysis and stakeholder engagement.
• Ability to develop and manage environmental studies, permits and biodiversity initiatives.
