About the role
Join MSALABS as a Fire Assay Operator and play a key role in the accurate preparation and processing of mineral samples for analysis. You will work hands‑on in a safety‑focused laboratory environment, ensuring precision and teamwork in a fast‑paced setting.
Key responsibilities
- Perform fire assay tasks following Standard Operating Procedures and industry reference methods.
- Accurately weigh and flux samples, manage fusion and cupellation processes, and handle lead waste responsibly.
- Prepare and weigh pulp samples, ensuring efficiency and precision throughout the shift.
- Monitor and report any deviations from protocols or safety standards to the Chemist or Supervisor.
- Maintain accurate records for sample preparation and quality control, and coordinate sample movement between laboratory departments.
Required profile
- High School Certificate or equivalent.
- Understanding of laboratory safety protocols and handling of hazardous materials.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Physically fit, able to lift up to 25 kg and work in a fast‑paced lab environment.
Required skills
- Fire assay procedures, including fusion and cupellation.
- Accurate sample weighing and fluxing.
- Lead waste handling and disposal.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.
