National Programme Officer (Education)

About the role

The UNESCO Windhoek Office is seeking a National Programme Officer for Education to support Namibia’s implementation of its National Development Plans and the Sustainable Development Goals. Reporting to the Assistant Director‑General for Education and the Head of the Windhoek Office, the incumbent will help design, coordinate and evaluate education programmes that advance sustainable development and the 2030 Agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Provide professional and technical support for the design, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of education programmes under Major Programme I.
• Conduct research and analysis on national education priorities, including emerging themes such as education for sustainable development, disaster risk reduction, global citizenship and artificial intelligence.
• Assist in building the institutional capacity of national and local partners, preparing work plans and contributing to inter‑sectoral initiatives.
• Develop and propose strategies for UNESCO interventions in innovative educational areas, collaborating with regional and headquarters teams.
• Prepare reports, documentation and communications for stakeholders and donors.

Required profile

• Namibian citizenship.
• Open to both internal and external candidates.
• Experience in education programme design, coordination and evaluation.
• Ability to work effectively with government, NGOs and international partners.
