Director, Strategy & Planning

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a senior leader to drive its ambitious external‑relations strategy. As Director of Strategy & Planning, you will shape the vision, design analytical processes, and own the final strategic outputs that guide fundraising, communications, advocacy and partnership initiatives worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Define and refine ER’s strategic goals and multi‑year plans aligned with the IRC’s target of doubling private revenue by 2033.
• Monitor progress against strategic objectives, reporting insights to senior leadership.
• Lead high‑impact projects such as market entry decisions, collaborative fundraising operating models, and donor experience improvements.
• Facilitate cross‑functional collaboration among fundraising, marketing, technology and operations teams.
• Develop analysis methods, scenario planning, and decision‑making frameworks to support strategic choices.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading strategy development and execution in large, complex organizations, preferably in the nonprofit or humanitarian sector.
• Strong track record of influencing senior leaders and driving cross‑departmental initiatives.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to translate data and insights into actionable plans.
